Two exciting events both happen the beginning of May, so be sure to let everyone you know who would enjoy attending what is happening. First, the Cincinnati
GeoFair is May 2 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will
be at Cincinnati Gardent, 2250 Seymour Avenue, in Cincinnati. See www.geofair.com
for directions. This show is the largest quality retail club sponsored show in our region. It has 44 retail dealers, 5 wholesale dealers, and over 70 displays
from public and private collections and museums. Additionally, there are demonstrations
and lectures. This show has a high quality emphasis on minerals. The show theme this
year is: Mineral and Fossil Oddities.
The second event is April 30, May 1, and May 2, in Greenville, KY. The House of Onyx is holding its spring open house with a 50% off customer appreciation
sale on all purchases regularly priced over $100. If you plan to attend, you need
to phone Renee and make an appointment so they will have a personal shopping
escort reserved to aid you in your shopping. The number to phone is 800 844-3100.
Wildacres and William Holland workshops still have some openings. So, if you have yet to make your course registrations for this year, now is
the time to do so.
After having the wonderful experience of holding our April meeting at the
Headley Whitney Museum, do keep in mind the wonderful treasures it holds; and plan to share it as a must see with friends and visiting relatives this summer.
You may consider becoming a member of the Headley Whitney Museum, so you can enjoy
all the benefits afforded Museum members.
At our May meeting, please bring for show and tell your favorite Mineral
or Fossil Oddities. This will be our small version of the Cincinnati Show theme. Let's make it fun, so bring some really unusual specimens to WOW everyone!!!
As usual name badge wearers at the Club meetings will be eligible to enter
the name badge prize drawing, so remember to bring and to wear your name
badge.
If you know of any hobby related news that our members would like to learn,
please forward it to our newsletter Editor, Steve De Fosse, so it will be in our next newsletter.

Editor's Note
Looks like it's time for me to get back on my soapbox. This is the May issue
and only a couple of members have contributed written material to our newsletter. That's right, I said OUR newsletter. Articles, pictures (captioned
please) poems, stories, anecdotes of your experiences, even jokes are all welcome.
Please, I know some of you are busy but it only takes a few minutes. Others of you
may think that you can't write well enough.
Well, the best advice I can give you is to write it down exactly as you would
tell it to a friend. Trust me, it works. Also, those or you with kids in the club,
please encourage them to write something for the newsletter. It is good experience and they get the thrill of seeing their material in print.

American Federation of Mineralogical Societies Future Rockhounds of America Merit Badge Program
This is the perfect time of year to save those stamps. Bring good used stamps to the next meeting by the bucket load!
These stamps are sent in to the Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies, of which your ROCK club is a member. The
SFMS sells used stamps to stamp collectors. Most used postage stamps have some resale value to collectors. 100% of the proceeds
from the sale of the stamps go toward scholarships to attend Federation Workshops at William Holland or Wildacres. A drawing
is held at the annual meeting of the SFMS to award the scholarships. The number of scholarships awarded each year depends
on the amount of money earned from the sale of the stamps.
